Civilian work schedules are defined in such terms as:
- Administrative workweek
- Basic workweek
- Regular tour of duty
- Uncommon tour of duty
- Part-time tour of duty
Regular Tour of Duty
Regular Tour
Most civilians work a regular tour of duty, which is normally:
- Five eight-hour days, Monday through Friday
Uncommon Tours
Uncommon Tour Definition
Uncommon tours of duty are a 40-hour basic workweek that includes:
- Saturday and/or Sunday, OR
- Fewer than five days, but NOT more than six days of a seven-day administrative workweek
Uncommon Tour Authorization
Uncommon tours are authorized when necessary for mission accomplishment.
Special Circumstances
Special Tours
Special circumstances permit:
- Part-time
- Intermittent
- Special tours of duty
Daily Work Hours
Daily Work Hours Authority
Installation and tenant commanders establish, by written order, daily work hours to include:
- Designated rest periods
- Lunch periods

Flexible work schedules allow employees to start and end work at different times.
Compressed Work Schedules
Compressed Schedules
Compressed work schedules cover 80 hours in a pay period in fewer than 10 workdays.
Most Common Compressed

The most common schedule has:
- Four nine-hour days each week
- An eight-hour day in one week
- A regular day off in the other week
