Service Flags

Display Order

Display Authority
In accordance with Title 10 United States Code, *Armed Forces*, service flags will be displayed by order of service date, with the most senior service flags being given the position of honor on the far right.

Order of Precedence — Service Flags

Service Flag Order Right to Left
Service flags will be displayed in the following order of precedence from their own right (or the observer's left):
  1. National Guard13 December 1635
  2. U.S. Army14 June 1775
  3. U.S. Navy13 October 1775
  4. U.S. Marine10 November 1775
  5. U.S. Coast Guard4 August 1790
  6. U.S. Air Force18 September 1947
  7. U.S. Space Force20 December 2019

After the Service Flags

Order After Service Flags
Following the service flags, the order of precedence of flags is as follows:
  1. North American Aerospace Defense
  2. U.S. Space Command
  3. Major commands (in alphabetical order)
  4. Field operating agencies
  5. Air National Guard
  6. Air Force Reserve
  7. Direct reporting units
  8. Numbered Air Forces, and wings (in descending order)
  9. Personal/position (using branch appropriate flags)
