4-Week E-5 Study Plan

Week 1–2: Read & absorb

Read all 15 chapters section by section. After each section, do a 10-question quiz. Focus on Chapters 7, 19, 20, and 1 first — they're tested heaviest. Mark flashcards for anything you don't immediately know.

Week 3: Drill & review

Switch to practice exams. Take 25-question quizzes daily. Use spaced repetition (Smart Review) to catch what you're forgetting. Review every missed question the same day. Target 75%+ mastery on every chapter.

Week 4: Simulate & sharpen

Full PFE simulations — 60 knowledge + 20 SJT, timed. Take at least 2-3 full practice tests. Review missed questions. Practice SJT scenarios daily. Your spaced repetition deck is now surfacing only the hardest material.

What Changed for E-5 in 2026

Two chapters were added to the E-5 test this cycle: Chapter 12 (Finance, Manpower, and Resources) and Chapter 17 (Emergency Management). If you studied for E-5 last year, these are new material you haven't seen before. Both were previously E-6 only. Chapter 13 (Developing Organizations) was removed from the E-5 test — don't waste time on it.

Don't Forget the SJT

20 of your 100 PFE questions are Situational Judgment. These test your ability to evaluate workplace scenarios based on the 24 Air Force foundational competencies. You can't memorize your way through them — practice identifying the most and least effective responses in realistic scenarios.
